The Cedars, also know as the Steamboat House, was built by the Rev. Joseph Camp, who moved from Georgia to Alabama’s virgin territory in 1833. He and his wife, Sarah, raised 12 children in the home. 

There is a slave cemetery adjacent to the property, and his 1882 autobiography details personal family, farm and church activities.

Munford was the site of the last Civil War skirmish east of the Mississippi and the last Confederate casualty. The Rev. Camp recides the history of Andrew Jackson’s famous battle of Talladega (accompanied by Jim bowie and Sam Houston, Davey Crocket) as well as the native people of the area. Many descendants still live in and around Munford and Talladega County and others regularly visit from far away. Each adding to the history of the house and the town.
